ࡱ> 241 bjbjVV 4 << #q^fff fff:,`!] 0#Rpff# : LAC Oversight Body Meeting Minutes Thursday, March 17, 2011 BA 524 9:00-10:30am Present: Lori Baker, Maria Brandt, Lyn Brodersen, Corey Butler, Brett Gaul, Vaughn Gehle, Linda Nelson, Will Thomas 1. Proposals: Lori Baker moved that SOCI 211 (Marriage and the Family) be approved for the Human Diversity area of the LEP. Lyn Brodersen seconded. Motion carried. Cheryl McConnaugheys submission for an IDST 400 (Contemporary Issues) seminar was discussed. LACOB will receive a syllabus after Cheryl has received feedback on her proposal. Some of the issues considered (not necessarily for this section of IDST 400, but for the course as a whole): team teaching, interdisciplinary emphasis, defining a contemporary issue. LACOB posed a number of questions specific to Cheryls section. Corey will pass these questions along to her. 2. Additional information for LEP new course form: Lyn Brodersen discussed how course outlines are being required for the major content area of each submitted course. The course outlines cannot be pulled from ISRS and must be generated and entered. Deb Mitlyng has also asked that all 10 general education outcomes be listed on the LEP forms. Corey will double-check and clarify requirements with Deb. 3. SAFAC funds: Steve Kramer had approached Lyn Brodersen with concerns about SAFAC funds. SAFAC is reluctant to release funds to events related to academic life. Lyn will be setting up a meeting to discuss the issue with Scott Crowell and Scott Ewing. Corey Butler will also attend. 4. Civic Engagement Survey data: Lyn Brodersen shared with LACOB the results of an SMSU civic engagement survey. We might consider using this or something similar as an indirect assessment measure for the LEP. However, terminology, student concerns, and question content must be adjusted before using this survey for LEP assessment. 5. CIP codes: Presently, the IDST courses are lumped into the CIP codes 24 and 30. Humanities courses are also included in CIP codes 24 and 30. In the future, Humanities alone will be listed under 24, the Liberal Arts code, and IDST courses will be under CIP code 30. Doing this will help us better understand instructional costs. 6. Livetext: A Livetext demonstration on assessment was held a few weeks ago, and another demonstration will be held in preparation for HLC accreditation on March 23rd at 10am. Livetext is already being used in SMSUs Education program. SMSU does not have to pay for a Livetext license; each student using it is charged $42 for 5 years access. This product will give us a place to collect student artifacts and conduct assessments. Lyn will approach Rhonda Bonnstetter and see if she is willing to provide a demonstration of Livetext to LACOB. 7. Other: The cap for FYS sections has been raised from 20 to 25 students for Fall 2011. Students coming in with an AA degree are required to take the Contemporary Issues course because it is a graduation requirement. For upcoming April registration, all full-time facultys courses will be released immediately. Adjunct courses will be hidden until full-time instructors sections fill. Students will have the opportunity to waitlist courses, and when a new course opens up, students on the waitlist will be notified via email and have 24 hours to register for the course. Linda Nelson will talk to Jill Schlemmer about printing out and distributing a course of current LEP-approved courses in time for registration. Meeting adjourned at 9:58am. Minutes respectfully submitted by Maria Brandt.
